Our Home
|
Circa November 2011 |
It's a 3 story townhouse, with 2 bedrooms and 2.5 baths. Each of the full baths are attached to bedrooms and the half bath is on the main level. We have a lot of ideas we are toying with on how to make it our own. We'll continue to update this page as we make improvements with before/after pictures and links to those postings.
Kitchen
The kitchen came with a brand new oven/electric range unit, along with pretty good refrigerator and dishwasher, so we won't be updating appliances anytime soon. But... the refrigerator and the dishwasher came with the
lovely awful wood paneling on the fronts, which made us think they were old, but really it's just removable paneling that the previous owners liked. So our first renovation project... drum roll..... was to
paint the refrigerator and dishwasher with chalkboard paint!
Another project we are looking into is painting the cabinets. We've read a bunch of information about painting them, so up next is choosing a paint color. Oh, and see those cabinets above the island? Those are coming down, it closes off the space too much. We are going to replace them with some kind of open shelving.

Next up was the
cabinet takedown and then addition of the
moulding! And I'm happy to say that well over a year later, we don't miss those cabinets at all and have found other ways to cope with the lack of extra storage in the kitchen.

Living Room
This view of the living room is from the kitchen so you can see the mantle, which is pretty nice, and the french doors out to the balcony. We're pretty happy with the overall look of this room, so other than adding touches here and there, we'll leave it as is for now. One thing we might do is darken the color on the mantle, you can't tell as well in the picture, but the mantle wood is much lighter than the hardwood flooring.

Half Bath
Not too much to do here, it's your typical small half bathroom. There is a white toilet adjacent to the sink, with a big white space above it, so we'll have to do something there. We'll probably update the fixtures in this bathroom, they are mixed between gold and silver colorings.
Laundry Room
The laundry is located between the two upstairs bedrooms, which we may consider moving to the basement at some point. It has a cheap folding door to close it off, so that's something we'll be looking to replace or find a creative solution to hide the room. If we do end up moving the laundry room to the basement, we'll make this space into an extra walk in closet for the master bedroom, which is just to the right of this picture. In June 2012, we pulled everything out of the laundry room, painted it a minty blue and added a nice spanish tile. It's about 70% complete- we still need to add the floor moulding, seal the tile and hang our new lighting fixture.
Upstairs Bedrooms & Baths
Not too much to say here- there isn't going to be much structural to change here. Both bathrooms are similarly sized and the closets are pretty much as big as they can be. Things will start updating when we settle in more with decor and more personality.
